Hundreds of children in Georgia are infected

The incident proved that children are susceptible to the new coronavirus and "played an important role in the spread."

According to the report, CDC said that there were 597 participants and staff in the summer camp. According to the current test results of 58% of people, at least 260 people have been infected.

It is understood that the summer camp did not comply with the CDC’s recommendation to require all participants to wear masks and only required staff to wear masks. From June 17th to 20th, the camp held briefing sessions for 138 trainees and 120 staff, most of whom were under 21 years old.

However, the organizer of this summer camp complied with the administrative order of Georgia, requiring everyone to be tested for the new coronavirus within 12 days before arrival and show a negative result certificate.

On June 21st, the summer camp officially opened. 363 participants aged 6 to 19 entered the camp, participated in various indoor and outdoor activities, and slept in a wooden house that can accommodate up to 26 people. On June 23, a young staff member left the camp after catching a cold. The next day he was tested for the new coronavirus and the result was positive. On June 27th, the participants went home and the summer camp was closed.

The health authorities launched an investigation on June 25 and found that as many as 260 of the 344 people tested positive, of which more than 230 were 17 years and younger, and 74% of the infected had mild fever, headache, and sore throat. Symptoms, and other confirmed cases have no symptoms.

The CDC report said: "This result shows that the new coronavirus is effectively transmitted in the sleep-sleeping environment of young people, resulting in high invasion rates for all age groups."

The report also stated that this finding shows that “children of all ages are susceptible to the new coronavirus, and contrary to previous reports, they may play an important role in spreading the epidemic.”
